Sketch the character of Hector.

 

Ans. Hector is the greatest of the Trojan warriors. He is the son of King Priam and Queen Hecabe. He is the supreme Commander of Trojan army and allied forces. King Priam calls him god among men. He seemed not the son of a mortal man but of a god. However, he is not a demigod nor a superman like Achilles. He appeals to us for his human qualities that make a man superior to his kind. His mother is not a goddess that can summon divine help for her son. His shield and armour are not made by Hephaestus. He tried his best to save his country from the clutch of his mighty adversaries backed by supernatural powers. He tried and failed. We feel sorry at his glorious defeat. Hector is above all meanness and stands tall even among the superhuman heroes.
