rustic language

Why does Wordsworth choose rustic language for poetry?

Ans. Wordsworth has used the language of humble and rustic life after purifying all of its coarseness and oddities. He has used the language of the humble and rustic life for the following reasons.

 (i) Wordsworth has used the language of the rustics because  such men hourly communicate with the best objects of nature from which the best part of language is derived.

(ii) As the rustics are of low rank in society, they are under the least influence of social vanity.

(i)                The expressions of the rustic folk are direct, clear, simple and impassioned. Their language comes from the depth of their hearts. So, it is natural language of the passions.

(iv) As the rustics move in the narrow circle, their language is more passionate, more vivid and more forceful.

(v) The rustic language is more philosophical than the artificial poetic diction.
