title of the play The Frogs
Justify the
title of the play The Frogs.
Ans. To
write a drama property, it is essential that it must have an apt title. If the
title fails to move the readers, the purpose of writing the play is defeated.
So every drama should have an appropriate title.
The very
title of the play, The Frogs gives the readers or the audience a different
idea. Here two choruses are employed. They are- opposite to ach other, rather
they follow each other. The chorus of frogs greets Dionysus' entry into Hades.
The spectators are very clamorous. They are compared to the frogs and mocked
at. They sing of the rain when they enter the Hades. The chorus brings about
the similarity of frogs croaking with clamour of noisy spectators. This chorus
appears only once but gives the clue to the title of the play. It may be called
an allegorical satire. The ode of the chorus is a parody on some parts of
places. It is really difficult to explain the reason behind calling the play,
The Frogs and why the chorus should give the title. The chorus of The Frogs is
never heard again after its contest with Dionysus.
The main
purpose of writing this comedy is to satirize and make literary criticism. A
parallel is drawn by the playwright between the breaking of the frogs and the
clamour and noise created by the spectators. The chorus of the frogs creates an
atmosphere of satire to serve the purpose. We may justify the titie of the play
in this way.
