the war between the Greeks and the Trojans

Do the archaeological findings establish the existence of Troy and the war between the Greeks and the Trojans?

Ans. The story of The Iliad relates the Trojan war. This, as told by Homer, is a war between the Greeks and the Trojans. But is there any historical or archaeological evidence that would put all the doubts in rest? The Greeks, however, never challenged the actual locations as narrated by Homer. In this connection we must mention the name of Heinrich Schliemann, a German who had read Homer as a boy and was interested to prove truth, if any in Homer's great epic. He excavated what he believed to be the site of Troy in early 1870. His conviction has been vindicated by all researchers in the subsequent years. In fact nine levels, indicating nine towns were discovered. The probable date of destruction of this town is 1250 B. C. the date given by Herodotus, a Greek historian of the 5th country B. C. therefore if there was at all a Trojan war, this was the place where and when it was fought.
