Hector's attitude to Helen
What was Hector's attitude to Helen who the Trojans believed
to be at the root of their misfortune and misery?
Ans. At the end of war on the first day Diomedes, the
greatest Greek hero next to Achilles, caused a havoc. The Trojan wives and
daughters came running to Hector when he retrieves from the battlefield. They
were all greatly anxious to know about their husbands and fathers. Like a true
leader he tried his best to keep their morale high. But he was shocked when he
found Paris was flirting with Helen. He soundly rebuked him. Hector however
never behaved rudely toward Helen. Not that he was a replica of a medieval
knight, always respectful to women, but he was for solid reasons very
sympathetic to Helen. In fact she had none to cling in that hostile country. It
was only generous Hector in whom Helen found a protector from the bitterness
that was playing in the minds of the Trojans from her very presence.
